My First Publication!

A few months back I sent in a layout to Canadian Scrapbooker. Once I had sent it in, I had sort of forgotten about it............until I received an email from them, requesting publication in the Summer issue!

.Canadian Scrapbooker Publication 2

I was thrilled! I packaged the layout up and sent it off so that they could photograph it for the magazine.

Canadian Scrapbooker Publication

We recently received our shipment for the store and there it was.........on page 96! This is my first publication and I am so excited that it was in a Canadian magazine. The funniest part of the whole thing is that the layout doesn't have any of my kids in it.........this one was all about David!

So Happy To Be Outside

I want to start off by saying that I love Allison's sketches. They have helped me create some of my favourite pages. This week is one-page week on the Sketch Support blog. I had recently developed some photos of one of my cats and decided to use the sketch to do a layout about him......isn't he handsome?

I used papers from the Stella & Rose collection from My Mind's Eye.

So Happy To Be Outside

For the teal border on my page, I started out with a frame like this.

I cut the frame into strips and then layered them together forming a long piece. I layered a piece of the yellow pattern paper on top and added the brads.

So Happy To Be Outside 2

I stitched a row of x's along the top of my layout.

So Happy To Be Outside 3

I wrapped a piece of baker's twine around the smaller photo and added a heart button (because I 'heart' Cooper).

So Happy To Be Outside 4

I even used my own hand writing to do the journaling.

I hope you visit the sketch support blog and download the sketch for yourself. If you create something, let me know here. I would love to check it out!

Pinterest!

Have you heard of Pinterest? It is a place to catalog the things you love. I have just discovered it and it is so very interesting.

Today I found origami with toilet paper!

Can you imagine going into someones washroom and seeing this? I would be afraid to use it (that would be a bit uncomfortable). Better yet, most of these take less than 5 minutes to do.......you could create this while in the washroom and surprise the next person!

Quilt For Sale!

Amanda has been busy making another quilt and she has decided that this one is for sale. It is made of top quality 100% cotton and has been washed several times to soften it up and fray the clipped seams. The finished size is approximately 40"x50".

On this side all the seams have been clipped to give it a 'rag' look.

Here is a close up of the front.

Here is a photo of the back of the quilt. Her sewing is very detailed and she is very conscientious.

She is selling this quilt for $165.00. If you are interested you can email me at scissorsandtrimmers@gmail.com.

#1 Most Bookmarked on Two Peas!

I scrapbook because I love it, no other reason! The fact that I own a scrapbook store and I am able to share the love of this craft is a bonus.

A few years ago I was introduced to blogging and the online world of forums and layout galleries. I upload some of my layouts to the gallery at Two Peas In A Bucket. It is rewarding to know that others enjoy looking at my layouts too.

Yesterday a good friend sent me a Facebook message and told me that my Just Add Sunshine layout was in the top three 'most bookmarked' layouts in the Two Peas gallery. I am still in shock!

I use my blog as an online journal so I thought that I would do a post to record this milestone in my scrapbooking!

Above is a snapshot of my entry on Two Peas. It shows how many times it has been viewed, members that 'like' my layout, members that comment and how many times it has been bookmarked by other members.

This is a snapshot of the front page of the members gallery. Just Add Sunshine is still be highlighted today as the #1 most bookmarked layout!

I am so flattered that others love my layout as much as I do! Thank you to all my followers.

Just Add Sunshine!

It is add-on sketch week at Sketch Support and I was really excited to work with this month's sketch. It was a tree...........I love trees! I wanted to create a tree that was full and lush, with lots of texture.

Here is the layout that I created using the add-on sketch! I used a sketch from Volume 6 (I think).

Here is a close-up of my tree. I used my Cricut to cut out clouds and then I ran them through the Cuttlebug to emboss them. I sanded them a bit to expose the core colour in the cardstock and added some stitching around the edges.

I found a die-cut in my stash that I turned into a sun. I added a button and some stitching for extra detail.

I made journaling strips and added clear stickers from SRM. I love these stickers.

I also used SRM stickers to create these embellishment boxes for my layout. I added foam adhesive to give add dimension.

Thickers and brads added more details to page 1. I love Thickers and I have so many brads in my stash. It is a great way to use them up.

You can download the tree add-on sketch on the Sketch Support site. Stop over and see what the other girls have created using this sketch. You will be inspired.

A Little Reminder!

Jason went for his driving test and got his G2 last Friday. It is an exciting time, but it is also very scary. We have been doing a lot of talking about driving safely and being aware of things around. My mom sent and email to me and as I was reading it I was thinking that it was something I wanted to post on my blog.

Part of Jason's driving course had an entire section dedicated to driving and cell phones. I am confident that he will abide by these rules and drive safely. My concern is the drivers around him. Read this..............

Her last call was from a new cell phone...Do you see the motorcycle? It’s in there!

The Honda crotch rocket rider was traveling at approximately 85 mph. The VW driver was talking on a cell phone when she pulled out from a side street, apparently not seeing the motorcycle. The rider's reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 20 feet from where the collision took place.

All three involved (two in the car and the bike rider) were killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at the Motorcycle Fair by the Police and Road Safety Department..
Pass this on to car drivers or soon to be new drivers, or new motorcycle owners AND ESPECIALLY EVERYONE YOU KNOW WHO HAS A CELL PHONE!!!!! A picture is worth a thousand words.

Save a life…Stop talking on Cell phones and Texting while trying to drive.
The life you save may be your own..... or mine...

Weekend Recap!

Recently I enjoyed an entire weekend away from the store. This does not happen very often and when it does, I really enjoy it. Don't get me wrong, I do love being at the store, but it is nice to get away from it once in awhile and enjoy time at home.

The days just fly by and sometimes I don't accomplish much. I always have such great intentions. Here are a few of the things that I did.......

On my way to Jason's ball hockey game I realized that I could take a picture of myself in the side mirror of the truck. You can even see the writing on the mirror!

Here is Jay as we are walking into the arena. I love that even though he is almost 17 years old, he still lets me take his photo.

Hubby always has to stop an Timmie's for a coffee before we go to the rink. The look on his face says that he does not appreciate the photo and he thinks I am nuts!

I spent a lot of time outside and my kitties did too. This is Cooper's first time out this season. He loves the outdoors. Isn't he handsome?

Matt was bored on Saturday evening so I suggested he build me a fire. This occupied him (and me) for a few hours.

I also spent some time getting my flower beds ready for planting. It felt great to be outside and digging in the dirt.

On Mother's Day Amanda had to work a double shift, so I didn't see much of her. She came home for a quick dinner break and we enjoyed a glass of lemonade that we purchased from the neighbours lemonade stand.

It was a great weekend and I hope to be able to do it again soon.

Amanda's First Quilt!

A while back I posted photos of some material that Amanda and I purchased to make our first rag quilt. She was cutting and sewing for 3 days straight. If you missed that post, click here!

I finally had the opportunity to get a photo of the finished quilt! It turned out so good and she just loves it.

Here is a close up of the squares. The back is a solid green flannel. It is the perfect size to snuggle up on the couch with.

She is busy working on another one and I think it is going up for sale when it is finished. We will keep you posted.

Happy Birthday!

Allison has done it again with another awesome 2-page sketch. I fell in love with this one and created a birthday layout to celebrate! I used the new Spotted Owl Soup from Jillibean!

Banners are all the rage and you see them everywhere. I used one of the pattern papers to create the banners you see on this page!

I had some fun with my journaling. I printed out the verses for Happy Birthday and then cut the word 'happy' out of one of the papers and popped it up over top of the printing that I did.

I embellished with a long row of brads. I have a lot of brads in my stash and I think that I will be using them a lot more.

I couldn't resist adding a little bit of bakers twine.

I replaced a couple of the smaller photos shown on the sketch with some presents that I created using the papers.

I hand cut a few of the little birthday owls and added a little sparkle with Stickles.......voila! Be sure to check out Sketch Support and see what the other ladies have created.
